Sesame Place is open for the holidays!

Whenever I drive my daughters to the Oxford Valley Mall during the warm-weather months, I avoid the roadway that runs by Sesame Place in Langhorne, Pa. Because invariably it is backed up with traffic from all the families visiting.

Imagine my surprise when, upon taking my daughters to the mall one recent December evening–and driving by Sesame Place–I ended up traffic.

Turns out Sesame Place is open for the holidays and has been transformed into a Christmas spectacle full of lights, live shows, and a parade of favorite furry friends.

Sound like something you’d like to take your kids, to? I can help you get Sesame Place tickets to “A Very Furry Christmas” at a discount.

Every year I do a round-up of freebies available for Earth Day. Before I’d founded this blog, those freebies appeared on my Suddenly Frugal blog. But now that I’m focusing on Philly-area deals, I wanted to share these 7 Earth Day freebies that you can enjoy this weekend in the Philadelphia region. Many are exclusive to our area. Enjoy!

  1. Target stores will be giving away 1.5 million reusable bags to customers who visit the store on Earth Day, Sunday April 22nd. Even better if you’re one of the first 250,000 to get there, you’ll get not only a free bag but a bag full of freebies, including Method laundry detergent and Burt’s Bees shampoo and conditioner.
  2. Season pass holders to Sesame Place in Langhorne can also snag a free reusable bag when they visit the amusement park on Sunday, April 22nd to purchase an unlimited refillable bottle. Basically, for $20 you drink for free all season long at Sesame Place. The free reusable bags go to the first 300 season pass holders who show up.
  3. The Whole Foods in Plymouth Meeting is doing two different freebie giveaways around Earth Day. On Saturday, April 21st, the first 25 people who visit the Plymouth Meeting location starting at 8 a.m. and share how they are going green in their everyday lives will get a free reusable coffee mug. Then on Sunday, April 22nd, from 12 p.m. until 3 p.m., if you arrive at the store wearing green and head over to the customer service desk, you’ll get a free reusable bag.
  4. In Peddler’s Village in Lahaska in Bucks County, which is celebrating its 50th birthday this year, by the way, when you make a $15 purchase at Sublime clothing store, you’ll get this reusable bag that folds up like a flower for free. Also in Peddler’s, the Town Crier Bakery is offering a buy one, get one free deal on Earth Day with theses delicious Earth Day-inspired cupcakes.
  5. On Earth Day (April 22, 2012), Origins is inviting folks to “trade in” any one of their existing skin care products, regardless of brand, for a free container of an Origins moisturizer, while supplies last. You can get this freebie at Origins retail stores and department store counters nationwide. All cosmetic packaging collected will be recycled or responsibly converted to energy through the Return to Origins Recycling Program.
  6. On Earth Day weekend there will be free admission to National Parks Service locations nationwide, including the sites in Philadelphia.
  7. Here’s a freebie that’s not Earth Day specific but it’s free nonetheless: at IKEA South Philadelphia you can get a free breakfast at IKEA on Mondays and kids eat free every Tuesday at IKEA.

If you hear of additional Philly freebies for Earth Day, post a comment to add to the list.

free amusement park admission for militaryThough this freebie is not tied into Veteran’s Day, the timing to tell you about it is.

Turns out that Anheuser-Busch amusement parks allow members of the military to receive one free day of admission during 2011 at their participating parks, which seems to include Sesame Place in Langhorne. And Sesame Place currently has the Count’s Halloween Spooktacular going on.

This freebie is good for one active-duty military personnel (valid ID required) plus three family members. Here are all the details about eligibility and participating parks. Hope that if you are a member of the military that you can take advantage of this deal this year.

And thank you for your service to our country.
