free chili red robin hell freezes overEveryone has offered to do something if and when hell freezes over. Well, now Red Robin restaurants have upped the ante and will be giving away free chili if hell freezes over.

That’s Hell, Michigan, a real place in that Midwest State.

According to Restaurant News, “If the temperature in Hell fails to rise above 32 degrees Fahrenheit on any given day between Tuesday, Feb. 19 and Sunday, Feb. 24, then Hell has officially frozen over!  To celebrate, the gourmet burger expert will help guests warm up with a free cup of Red’s Chili Chili™ on Tuesday, Feb. 26.”

The catch? You have to be one of the first 100 to visit a local participating Red Robin on Tuesday, Feb. 26 in order to get this freebie.

In the Philadelphia area, you’ll find Red Robin locations in the following:

Ten bucks for two courses at lunch or dinner is a pretty good deal. Which is why Buca di Beppo’s latest offer caught my eye.

Right now you can get what the restaurant is calling “4 for $40″ or $10 per person (for four people) to enjoy lunch or dinner.

Here’s what you’ll get at this price:

  • garlic bread
  • mixed green or Caeser salad
  • choice of 1 of 4 pasta dishes

Visit the Buca di Beppo site to get the coupon you need to cash in on this delicious deal.

For dine in only. Expires November 11th, 2012.

You’ll find three Buca di Beppo locations in the Philadelphia area–in Allentown, Exton, and Wynnewood.

Sam’s Club Pharmacy locations are offering free diabetes and vision screenings for members and the public on Saturday, Sept. 8 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

According to the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), about 1.9 million new cases of diabetes are diagnosed each year, and the disease is the leading cause of new cases of blindness in adults in the U.S. If trends continue, 1 out of 3 U.S. adults will have diabetes by 2050.

As diabetes diagnoses continue to rise, a simple screening can help more Americans proactively manage their health. Sam’s Club’s free diabetes screenings are valued at more than $150 and include:
•    Glucose tests
•    A1C tests (blood test for diagnosed diabetics that measures blood sugar)
•    Vision tests*
•    Blood pressure and BMI (body mass index) tests

“Knowing the links between risk factors, choices and solutions prepares our members to better manage–or even prevent–diabetes,” said Jill Turner-Mitchael, senior vice president, Sam’s Club Health and Wellness. “As we offer the diabetes screenings for a second year, I am reminded of Member stories where they came in for a screening or product samples and learned about a possible health problem, which led them to make an appointment with a health care provider. It is stories like this that remind us why we offer these invaluable free screenings to our communities.”

Sam’s Club has dedicated the current issue of Healthy Living Made Simple Magazine to diabetes lifestyle management and prevention tips for September and women’s health tips for October.

Participating locations include:

NEW JERSEY

  • Cinnaminson
  • Deptford
  • Williamstown

PENNSYLVANIA

  • Allentown
  • Exton
  • Franklin Mills
  • Langhorne
  • Philadelphia
  • Reading
  • Willow Grove

leap day dealsThere are a number of establishments in the Philadelphia area that are “celebrating” Leap Day tomorrow (February 29th) with deals, discounts, and freebies. I’ve rounded up as many as I could find, but if you hear of others in Philly, do post a comment to let us know.

FOOD DEALS AND FREEBIES

  • The Field House Bar and Restaurant at 11th and Filbert in Philly is celebrating its 4th birthday on February 29th and is offering an open bar and free food from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. You must contact the restaurant to be put on its guest list to get this freebie.
  • Krispy Kreme locations in Philly are offering a Leap Day doughnut deal. You can get a half dozen–or 6–original glazed donuts for only $2.29. Get it? The price is like the date? FYI, a dozen donuts usually costs close to $8 so this is a real savings! You’ll find Krispy Kreme locations in Bensalem, Collingswood (NJ), and Center City.
  • Dine at a discount at Buca di Beppo! Bring this coupon with you to enjoy a meal for 4 for only $29 on 2/29/12. This prix fixe menu includes salad, a pasta dish, and dessert. What a great deal–that comes out to a little more than $7 per person! You’ll find Buca di Beppo locations in Center City, Exton, and Wynnewood.
  • Get a free cookie at Subway when you purchase a meal there on Leap Day.
  • Lunch is on Einstein Bros Bagels–when you buy one lunch sandwich, you’ll get another for free. Click the Get Offer link on the Facebook page and an email coupon will be sent to your inbox. This freebie is not only good on February 29th but actually is valid through March 4. There are tons of Einstein Bros Bagel locations in the Philly area; the one closest to me is in Newtown (Bucks County).
  • Some deal sites are saying that you can get a free cup of coffee at McDonald’s in the New York Metro area. When I visited the New York Metro McDonald’s website, I found this freebie instead: BOGO (buy one get one free) Big Mac or Sausage McMuffin. The closest McDonald’s to us for this deal is in New Brunswick. Anyone heading up towards Rutgers on Leap Day?
  • While not technically a Leap Day Deal–though you can take advantage of it on February 29th–this double freebie was too good not to mention. Go “Like” Arby’s on Facebook, and then you can print out a coupon for a free drink and curly fries that you will get when you purchase an Arby’s Reuben sandwich. This deal is good through March 11th.

OTHER LEAP DAY DEALS AND DISCOUNTS

  • Get free admission at the Woodmere Art Museum on Leap Day. (The Woodmere Art Museum is located in Chestnut Hill.)
  • Frontier Airlines is having a Leap Year Sale on airfare. Frontier flies from 65 cities, including Philadelphia. These discounted fares must be booked by before midnight on 2/29/12 and must be used by May 9th.
  • The Haverford Library is offering a free book fine amnesty day on February 29th. That is, if you have overdue books from the library, you can return them on Leap Day and have the fee waived. Check out the Haverford Library website for details.
