I got these notebooks for $.18 each!

Penny deals are all the rage during the back-to-school season, and I’ve been doing a regular round up of penny deals at Staples for 2012 over on my Suddenly Frugal blog. In real life I’m usingthose penny deals to save money on my daughters’ school supplies. Just today I got filler paper for three-ringed binders for a penny a piece.

As luck would have it, I stumbled across a sweet back to school deal at Superfresh today as well. I’d gone there to do some food shopping, and noticed that they had school supplies–and in one instance, at a terrific price. The winner for me was this: spiral-bound notebooks for $.18. Yes, that’s right, eighteen cents.

Unlike office supply stores like Staples, which often limit how many of these penny deals you can buy, there was neither any limit on the number of spiral notebooks I could buy at Superfresh nor the minimum amount I had to spend to get this great price. That filler paper I picked up for a penny? Yeah, I was limited to 5 packs and I had to buy something else at Staples that added up to $5 in order to qualify for the penny deal. (I ended up stocking up on pens that were $.50 for a 10 pack in the clearance aisle.)

Since my daughters, both high school students, like to color code notebooks based on subject, I bought two notebooks in each of the colors Superfresh had. Unfortunately, the store had four colors only, so I picked up 8 notebooks for $1.44.

I’ll have to go back tomorrow to see if the store has replenished its stock and added more colors so I can get a total of six different colors to cover each of my daughters core subjects this year. FYI, this deal is good through Wednesday, August 15th.
