Haircuts on the Cheap Benefit a Good Cause

haircuts for hope breast cancer fundraiserDuring October’s Breast Cancer Awareness, many salons have offered “cuts for hope” or “cut a thons” to raise money for breast cancer research. Usually, haircuts are offered at a discount, and the proceeds are donated to a good cause.

Throughout the end of the month, a handful of beauty parlors, salons, and spas in the greater Philadelphia area will be having their fundraising hair-cutting events. Here is a rundown of a few of those upcoming haircut events:

  • On Sunday, October 23rd two Philly-area salons are participating in “Hope Cuts.” Hope Cuts are sponsored by the City of Hope. Each salon sets its own price for a donation to get a haircut, and all stylists are donating their time and talent for the cause. They are:
  • The Salon at Boscov’s in Reading (both the East and North locations) are having a fundraising cut-a-thon on Sunday, October 30th. For a $20 donation, you can get a haircut, a manicure, a mini pedicure, a 10-minute chair massage (at the East location only) OR two feather extensions added to your hair. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Appointments are necessary–this is not a walk-in event. Salon at Boscov’s North- 610-921-9469; Salon at Boscov’s East- 610-779-2847
  • While not exactly the traditional cut a thon, Michele’s Salon & Spa in Avalon, NJ, is having its own breast cancer fundraiser during October. For a $10 donation, you can get a pink feather extension added to your hair, and the $10 will go to the Pink Hair for Hope Campaign.
  • Also not a hair-cutting event but still relevant to beauty on the cheap that benefits a good cause: on Thursday, October 20th, the nail salon Polish Spa & Boutique in Wayne will offer manicures for a cause–for donations only instead of the regular $25 charge.
